An Arkansas native, Jon Remley started playing the oboe in 7th grade and the saxophone in the 9th grade. His musical influences run a wide gamut. Oboists he admires include Earnest Harrison, John Mack and John DeLancie. The saxophonists include Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Lenny Pickett and Gerry Mulligan to more contemporary groups like Tower of Power, Rare Earth, the Temptations, Stylistics, the Spinners, Cold Blood and Chicago. Composers include Bernstein, Beethoven, Copeland, Stravinsky and Orff; and conductors include Leonard Bernstein, Leopold Stokowski and Jerry Junkin. A singer as well as a musician, he sang lead in several different bands including a Southern Rock group called Southern Springs as well as with the Henry Hoyt Orchestra in Hot Springs. One other interesting piece of information regarding Jon Remley is that he graduated high school with Billy Bob Thornton.
